Date : December 12, 2019.
Place : Mines Nancy, Campus ARTEM, France.

Sa présentation est intitulée « Origin of seismicity related to a flooded abandoned coal mining district at Gardanne, Provence, France ».

Gardanne mine. Post mining seismicity problem

In flooded, abandoned coal mine at Gardanne in Provence region, local microseismic monitoring network has been detecting significant periodic seismic activity that seems to originate from an interaction between rocks and fluids. To reliably assess local seismic hazard, detailed understanding of the triggering mechanisms of observed seismicity is crucial, as well as knowing whether it indicates a fracture or faults system near a critical state of rupture, or simply episodes of small transient creep. Thesis project therefore focuses of seismic data analysis and further, combining these results with hydrogeological analysis and geomechanical modelling.
